Elon Musk recently shared his vision for the future of media in a two-hour interview on Nikhil Kamath’s YouTube channel. During the conversation, Musk discussed various topics, including work, consciousness, and money. When the discussion shifted to content creation, Musk predicted that most digital content, including media, movies, and podcasts, will be “overwhelmingly AI-generated” by 2026.
Musk believes that by 2026, over 90% of new digital content will be created by AI. He specifically mentioned xAI’s Grok-3 model, which will be capable of producing full-length films from simple text prompts. This, he claimed, will directly compete with Hollywood studios in content creation, although he acknowledged that AI still struggles with maintaining narrative consistency in long-form content.
Musk highlighted real-time video generation and video games as key areas where AI will have the most impact. He praised AI tools developed by his company, xAI, for their ability to convincingly imitate human experiences. According to Musk, these tools can capture even the subtlest aspects of human interaction, bringing new possibilities to media and entertainment.
Musk also discussed the rising value of live events in the future. He argued that as digital media becomes nearly free and ubiquitous, live experiences will become increasingly rare and valuable. This shift could create a strong investment opportunity, as people will increasingly seek real human interaction over digital content.
Musk’s predictions have sparked criticism from industry experts. The Directors Guild of America warned that AI-generated content could lead to widespread unemployment in the creative sector. Streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney also expressed concerns, stating they would not accept AI-generated content without human oversight due to quality and authenticity issues.
